More About This Verse

Meaning

An eternity of peace, joy, and love with God in heaven is what all Christians can ultimately cling to, regardless of circumstances. We are able to have this hope of what’s to come because we believe that Jesus died for our sins, creating a way to be in relationship with Christ Jesus and with God; this is how Christ saved us from death.

So our faith is having confidence in what we hope for—a relationship with Christ, the blessings that come because of that relationship, and (ultimately) an eternity in heaven with God. Our faith is also the assurance of what we don’t see—the Holy Spirit working in and through us. This confidence and assurance is supernatural because it comes from God.

Faith is confidence, hope, and assurance of a God who created us, saved us, and will come again.

“The fundamental fact of existence is that this trust in God, this faith, is the firm foundation under everything that makes life worth living. It’s our handle on what we can’t see. The act of faith is what distinguished our ancestors, set them above the crowd.” (Hebrews 11:1-2, MSG).
